When rerouting the duct beats cleaning it again

Two cycles to dry a normal load. Cleaned last year, back to slow by winter. That pattern usually is not lint alone. It is the route. Two-story tract homes here often run 20 to 35 feet through the attic with three to five elbows before a roof cap. Every elbow costs you airflow. Cross a cold attic and moist exhaust condenses, then lint pastes itself to the metal walls. Cleaning resets that clock. Rerouting changes the clock.

Rerouting means finding a shorter legal path. Sometimes that is dropping a roof-terminated run down to a side wall. Sometimes it is trading three elbows for one long sweep. In postwar Petaluma ranches with a garage-wall or hall-closet run, the original crimped metal is often assembled backwards, so seams catch lint traveling the wrong way. That run is short. Rebuilding it in smooth rigid pipe is straightforward.
